Being the PAC-10 guy that I am, this makes me even more furious. It has been difficult enough living on the East Coast the last 5 years and never even watching PAC-10 teams play unless USC was involved. Factor in the time zone difference and people on the East Coast would be lucky to watch 5 minutes of Oregon or California every year. People on the East Coast would be shocked to hear that Oregon State has won 19 games the last two seasons and have won 4 consecutive bowl games. No wonder they are generally an afterthought to mid-level SEC teams that are constantly on national TV. Back on topic....
I have always thought there was some bias on ESPN since they televise a lot of SEC games. They want to constantly promote the league so their ratings will increase. With both ESPN and CBS broadcasting games, essentially every SEC football game will be televised nationally. Well, I came across this note on collegefootballnews.com yesterday and it hit home for me:
"ESPN appears to be on the verge of getting the rights for the BCS games for 2011 and beyond. Meanwhile, the network has ponied up $2.5 billion for the rights to televise the SEC games other than the one CBS will snag for its game of the week. That means ESPN will be the equivalent of the SEC Network during football seasons. As if the $55 million a year the SEC will be getting from the deal ins’t enough, let’s just say it’ll be in the Boo-Ya’s best interest if the league just so happens to be promoted all the time when it comes to lobbying efforts to get an SEC team into the national title. Also, be prepared for any and all critical thought when it comes to BCS discussion to be gone from the Worldwide Leader, and for any hint of the P-word, be it for an eight-team tourney or a plus-one format, to be squashed like Harold Reynolds."This should bother anyone who is a fan of a team in another conference. ESPN will be pushing hard on a weekly basis to get SEC teams ranked higher since that will increase their ratings. If you think I am the only one bothered by this, consider these words from Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops during the 2004 season:
"I'm aware of what their contracts are with. Whether people are directed in certain ways, I'm not going to say that. I think all the people ought to be aware who their contracts are with and what some of their agendas may be. I just understand TV and what happens with programs. Ratings matter. I think it's fair to say, too, they have a contract with the SEC. I'm fully aware of that. I can't be the only one who recognizes that. It's impossible to remove agendas. They have producers and ratings. I don't know what impact they have, but I'm sure they have some."For those of us who can't take any more of ESPN shoving the SEC down our throats, it's only just begun.

It is pretty stupid...ESPN will now just be pushing the SEC down our throats even more...hopefully the powerhouses in the league can try to avoid being down at home 31-3 to Troy State so the nation doesn't have to watch that crap.
How can ESPN call themselves the leader in sports when they don't allow one of the biggest college football topics to be discussed?!! Even the pres-elect feels that the need for a football playoff system is one of the biggest problems in sports!!
LONG LIVE THE SEC...and Notre Dame...I can't stand the Pac 10 anyway.

Blaney,
What has you more excited, the 7th straight loss to USC next weekend or the possible 10th straight bowl loss? Haha. Fight on!
Blaney,
I find it impossible to fathom that anyone could be a fan of BOTH the SEC in general as well as Notre Dame. Basically what your telling everyone is that your a moron.
The only way you could actually be a fan of both is if you grew up near South Bend and/or attended an SEC school, or vice versa. Maybe you went to Alabama and maybe your grandpa was a fan of Notre Dame. Or maybe you've just watched Rudy one to many times.
Please explain further why you are a blanket fan of both.
Please also explain why you are not a fan of the Pac 10. Again, "in general" you do not favor a specific conference for no apparent reason.
Dewey,
Not that it should matter, I should be able to like whoever I want to like, but I did grow up in Florida and my sister and father went to Notre Dame. I also don't like the Pac 10 or USC and I was trying to make the Sports Chef mad even though SC is going to mop the floor with the Irish.
And Dewey, wait until NCAA basketball starts up in full swing and I start talking about the Big East...then it might make it really hard to "fathom" why I think Big East b-ball is the best ...go Nova!!!
Also I moved to California when I was a bit older and I like the Dodgers and the Angels...(how could I do such a thing)...I like the Bears and Brett Favre (what a hypocrite I am). And I like the Lakers and some of the Celtic players (I must be going to hell)
The point is, let me like who I want to like. I wouldn't call you a moron if you liked the Yankees and the Red Sox.
Anyone who likes the Yankees or the Red Sox is a moron.
And what you've basically just explained to me in your rebuttal is that your a fan of all of these following teams:
Let it be known that you've covered approximately 25 states.
College Football:
Florida
Georgia
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Kentucky
Tennessee
Alabama
LSU
Mississippi
Auburn
Arkansas
Mississippi State
Notre Dame
probably Miami and Florida State as well.
College Basketball:
Seton Hall
Villanova
Cincinnati
Marquette
Pittsburgh
Rutgers
Syracuse
West Virginia
DePaul
Georgetown
Notre Dame
Providence
St. John's
USF
Louisville
NBA:
Lakers
Celtics
MLB:
Dodgers
Angels
Rays (I'm from Florida! and I've always been a Rays fan!)
Teams I don't like:
CFB/CBB:
California
Arizona State
Stanford
Washington State
UCLA
USC
Washington
Arizona
Oregon
Oregon State
NHL:
Whats that?
So basically every day of the week your guaranteed a victory in one sport or another.
I have a few questions......
1) How many jersey do you own, and how often do you wear them out?
2) This question was posed by Dr. Phil.
Why are you so afraid of being hurt again?
Is there something in your past your afraid to confront?
I have a question for you:
So anyone who likes the Red Sox or Yankees is a moron but what about those people who watch Dr. Phil?...then again, if you are a Rays fans that explains everything. Afterall, you need all the help you can get.
By the way, I own 4 jerseys that I wear out all the time...the Irish, Nova, Dodgers, and of course, the Bears...Those are my favorite teams and those are the teams I route for...I just happen to like some teams more then others...for instance when a SEC team plays against the Pac 10 in football or if a Big East team plays against anyone else in basketball. I like conferences better then other conferences...I never once said anything about individual teams except for the Irish, Bears, Nova, Lakers and the Dodgers (all different sports I might add). The only other team I mentioned by name is the Sports Chef's fav...the Angels and although I do like them, I route for the boys in blue when they play each other.
So looking back, I route for ONE team in each sport Dodgers (MLB), Irish (cfb), Nova (men's bb), Bears (NFL), Lakers (NBA).
I actually hate all Florida teams in any sport except for when they play against the Pac 10...and I still think the SEC is the best football in the country.
are the girls finished fighting or do they need to go to time-out?
If you like the yankees and the red sox you are a moron. If you quote Dr. Phil you may be a moron too. (Dr. Oz is where it's at). BTW the real Wildcats reside in Tucson. We maybe in a rebuilding phase, but the true cats will rise again. Bear Down!!
